God's Continued Protection ~

Four years ago today, our life was changed forever. We had celebrated Christmas here in GA with our new family of 4 and with Dalton's family, and it was time to head to MS to see my family. Mary Dalton was 28 months old, Jackson was 11 months old. I am a born again Christian and have prayed for my children since I was a teenager. I prayed God would bless me with healthy children. He did. I prayed God would bless me with a boy and a girl...and He did. After the children were born, I never knew just how much I would pray...all day. EVERYDAY, I pray for their health and safety....everyday...several times a day. I pray God would cover them with His hand and surround them with angels. And He does...everyday. The morning of December 30, 2006, we left around 4 a.m. to head to MS. We left so early, because I could feed Jackson a bottle and then the kids would sleep in the car. We were looking at a 10 hour drive, and needed them to sleep! ;) I remember putting in a Wiggles video for Mary Dalton and Dalton and I small talking until both babies were fast asleep. I had on my glasses because we left so early I did not want to bother with my contacts. I remember looking back in the parent view mirror and seeing my two most precious gifts from God in the back seat. I decided to take a cat nap. I could not really get comfortable and I vividly remember praying. I prayed (like I always do) for protection for our family. I prayed that God would always put Christian people in my chidlren's lives and I prayed that angels would surround us as we travel. Sometime later, I dozed off.
I don't really remember much after that. I was asleep and I heard Dalton scream a scream that no one should ever have to hear. It was pitch black and all I could hear after that was glass and loud crashes. The car flipped three times and we were now upside down in the middle of I20 in Atlanta. Dalton screamed for me to get out of the car, as he was scared someone would hit us. We were upside down, air bags were everywhere and Jackson was screaming. Mary Dalton never made a peep. I somehow managed to get my hands on Jackson and unbuckle him and pull him to the front, then we climbed out the window. When I got out, Dalton was frantically throwing what was left of our luggage all over the road, screaming...looking for Mary Dalton. I was in such a daze, I just stood there and watched. I am not sure how much time passed, but a man walked up and was holding Mary D. He was a fireman and a paramedic and was behind us when the wreck happened...he had seen us earlier and knew that we had 2 babies in the car. As soon he saw the wreck, he stopped and got our baby girl out. There's my angel I prayed for.
The ambulance came and we were seperated. I remember not having my glasses and not being able to see what was going on and feeling so lost. Dalton and Mary Dalton went in one ambulance, Jackson and I in the other. They strapped him down and he had cried so much that his eyes were open, but he was not really crying anymore, just groaning. They pushed him right under me and as long as I sang "Jesus Loves Me" he was quiet. The man in the ambulance kept telling me God was watching over me and my baby and he was praying for my husband and little girl ~ Christian people....another answered prayer.
After arriving at the hospital, Jackson was moved to a children's hospital. Dalton was discharged and able to go with him. I had to stay at the hospital for more x rays and tests. The nurses took Mary Dalton ~ they fed her and let her watch a movie until our friends who live in ATL got there to help us with her. More Christians ~ another answered prayer.
As I prayed for God's protection, I had no idea that literally mintues later He would provide it in a way that is still amazing. We all four walked away with minor injuries. It took Dalton & me weeks to fully recover, but we had not one broken bone or one stitch. My babies ~ perfectly fine.....
The wreck was not our fault. There was another accident on the road that had not been moved. They cut off their lights and kept their car in the road, it was really foggy and when Dalton saw the car, he almost swirved enough to miss it...literally a inch or so. It shut down the interstate for over 4 hours.
Dalton & I will forever be changed because of what we went through. We SWEAR by a Britax carseat. The only marks on the children were from the straps of the carseat holding them in tight. We ALWAYS wear our seatbelts. We would not be alive if we had not been wearing them.
So, today, 4 years later ~ I continue to pray God's protection over my family...because He hears my prayers....and continues to protect my precious babies everyday.
This is the front view of the car. You can see where we hit the other car on the passenger's side.

Closer view of the front

Car seats ~ untouched....
The officers said that these are the safest seats you can buy ~ BUY ONE if you have a baby! They also said that the side curtain airbags helped protect the children.

Pretty amazing, huh? Traveling about 70 mph, flip 3 times, total your car and walk away unhurt...God is GOOD!
I bought another Pilot exactly like the one we wrecked....and will probably drive one until I can't drive anymore!
It was not an experince that I EVER want to relive, but in the same breath ~ seeing God's hand and protection in the entire ordeal is truly answered prayer and amazing to me. I am so thankful for answered prayers!

Girls Just Want to Have FUN!

Mary Dalton got to have a friend sleep over since we had to cancel her sleep over plans for last week due to sickness! They had so much fun! Dalton came home and did "sack of potatoes" on everyone ~
They played hide and seek ~
We went and looked for deer at the farm ~
Took a bath in the big tub ~ lots of bubbles!
Played with their Bitty Twins til they could play no more ~

Went for a pedicure ~

Had lots of giggles and sweet conversations ~

Nothing like a little technology to help pass the time!

And what did we do with Jax? He went with us! ;) He sat with me and watched a movie and was VERY good! He is such a good sport!

Ta-dah! pretty, polished toes with a little bling just for fun!

And finally, a trip to eat Mexican! Yummy!

It was such a fun night/day!

Snow Day!

We got a good bit of snow on Saturday night, into Sunday! The kids had a blast playing in the snow! Thankfully, Uncle Amos, Aunt Sue-anna, and Suz all wanted to play in the snow, too ~ because I was NOT going out ~ way too cold for me!
They had a snowball fight from snow on the deck....
Had LOTS of laughs with Uncle Amos ~ I am not sure who had more fun! ;)
Went out by the diving board and gathered up lots of snow for an even BIGGER snow ball!
Had a little taste of snow ~
Made a "mini" snowman on the table ~ notice Jackson's sock gloves! ha!

Had LOTS of smiles!

And then TOTALLY crashed afterwards! Thanks for a fun day Uncle Amos!

Christmas at the Dowdys

We enjoyed Christmas at Dalton's parents' house ~ his sister cooked a yummy breakfast!

Dalton & his mom ~ aka ~ Suz or yoohoo! ;)
Mary Dalton was SOOOO excited! Suz and Big gave her the dress so she could match the bitty twins Santa left!
I was SO surprised! I got my "dream" rain boots! :) I am so sad though! They kill my calf and I may have to return them! :(
I got a steam mop ~ woohooo!!!! SO EXCITED about that! :)

Jackson & Sue-anna both got i-pod touches ~ He was so shocked, he could not even talk! He has played with it nonstop!

It was such a fun way to end a special day! :)

Christmas morning ~

Christmas Eve ~ we put out our reindeer food and got the cookies & milk ready for Santa!

All snuggled in and ready for Santa! They watched a little TV, then got in bed with us and Dalton read us the Christmas story from Luke. They were so sweet listening! Mary Dalton said our prayer and it may have been the sweetest prayer ever! She thanked God for sending Baby Jesus and giving us Christmas.
She woke up at FOUR a.m! Santa had JUST left! We made her wait until 5 because Jackson was snoozing away! We let her go sneak and see if Santa had been by ~ She came running back in our room and her little heart was POUNDING ~ she was soooo excited! We got Jackson up and went to see their treats!

We cut way back on Christmas this year ~ and it was SO less stressful! The children were not overwhelmed and have played and played with their few toys! I was not worried about putting all the "stuff" up because there was not a lot of junk! Dalton & I both agree that this has been our best Christmas yet!

Mary Dalton & Jackson buy one gift for each other ~ this is when they were exchanging gifts ~ They were sooo sweet to each other!

It was a wonderful, relaxing day at home ~ filled with lots of laughter, a GREAT nap, and tons of love! I could not ask for a better day!

Christmas Eve Brunch ~

We had some of our closest friends over on Friday to enjoy brunch. We used to host this event every year, but have not since I was pregnant with Jackson. We also used to have 100-125 people join us, and this year we only asked 12 families. We hope to have our "big" crowd back next year!
Mary Dalton was super excited when Uncle Amos got here!
oooppppssss..Not sure how these got here, but these were from Christmas Eve night. We go to some friends' house ever year for a fun get together!
Mary Dalton & her sweet friends at the brunch ~
I am so thankful my children have such sweet friends!
LOVE this pic! Mary Dalton is 4 months older than M.W. but a GOOD foot taller, when I went to take their pic, MD squatted down to reach her! ;)
It was a fun day! I am so blessed to have so many good friends and family in our life!

Christmas Cookies ~

This time of year, STRESSES me out....there is too much to do, too many places to be, too much to buy, etc. Last night, I had a melt down. I am tired, have sick children, miss my family during the holidays, have a SQUIRREL in our house, and have 1000 things to do that aren't done still. I decided that a bath and bed were in order! When I got of the tub, Mary Dalton had left this on my bed....how sweet is that??? Oh how I love that girl! I put her in bed with me and we fell asleep all snuggled up watching Polar Express ~ Jackson was "too cool" to snuggle with us...he wanted a pallet! ;)

After bath time, there was a LOT of running and playing ~ Jackson has taught himself karate...I MUST video this! It is a RIOT!
We decorated our cookies today! Mary Dalton is a big help in the kitchen! Since she has learned to read, she reads me the recipes and has gotten really good with fractions too! She was mixing the icing for me!
This is the 1st year that decorating did not DESTROY our house! I made them take turns, and Jackson let MD go first ~ I talked them into working over the sink which saved the floor! ;)
And Tah-Dah! Our 2010 Christmas Cookies!
We are having some of our closest friends over in the morning for brunch. We used to do this every year, but stopped the year that I was on bedrest with Jackson and just never started back! So, we are doing this year on a smaller scale. I am looking forward to it ~ but praying we all stay well!

Lazy Day at Home ~

Today was supposed to be a fun filled day with baking and decorating cookies, but poor Jax came down with a stomach bug last night, so we had a change of plans! We have spent the day at home, doing laundry and playing! Thankfully, he woke up feeling great this morning! He bought a playdough set with some Christmas money and has had soooo much fun playing with it today!

Dalton came in for a second and had a gift from a client/friend. I was CRACKING UP at the "decor" that was added on! A dead turkey's foot! ha! ha! THAT ladies and gentlemen, would classify as REDNECK! Of course, Dalton thought it was great...and if loves it, then I do too! :)
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Growing up, we always made sausage balls every year for Christmas! Today, after lunch the kids helped me make a batch to enjoy! They were really good at rolling them into little balls ~ they have had lots of practice with playdough! ;)
When we were done, they headed outside! I was in the laundry room and looked outside and saw that jackson had climbed up the brick collumn! If he fell he could be REALLY hurt ~ I had to hurry and get him down! I swear he is part monkey! And notice, Mary Dalton is attempting to join him, but Grace could not quite make it! ;)

And what else did we do???

LAUNDRY!!!!!

I am never amazed at how much laundry we accumulate, add a sick child in and it's tripled!

Good times, good times! ;)

I am praying that the rest of us stay well! Dalton & I were talking and think JDD might have eaten a few honeybuns which could be the reason he was sick...regardless, I pray we stay well! Mary Dalton was supposed to have a friend to spend the night, and of course we had to cancel...she was SOOOO upset, but handled it well! I promised her next week she could have two friends over to spend the night! That seemed to make everything A.O.K! in her little world!
