funny story...

OK ~ before anyone will even remotely think that this story is funny, you need somebackground info!

when we moved here, about 8 years ago, Dalton's sister and i were having a huge yard sale at the pecan plant. this black man walked up to me and said, "Miss Dawson! Miss Dawson! I know you!" I was just staring...not sure what to say or do and then I read his shirt (yes, his name was on his shirt...but funny...he had no job). I read "Roger Lee." As soon as I read it, I realized that this was the man that was employed by Dalton's dad at the pecan plant for years...a great worker. However, he got put in jail for something i am sure he did not do (or at least we hope he did not do). All the black men at the plant thought that "Mr Jerry" (dalton's dad) had sent dalton to law school to get roger lee out of jail.

Realizing that this was the infamous Roger Lee himself (and a convict) I said, "Oh, Roger Lee, it is so nice to meet you. Dalton has told me all about you." He replied, "I knows you! I had your picture up in the jailhouse! I look at you all the time and my buddies would ask to borrow your picture."

Uhhhh...yeah....REALLY REALLY REALLY disturbing...I was someone's jailhouse fantasy.

I said, "Roger Lee, where did you get my picture?"
He said,"Out of the newspaper when you married Mr.Dawson."
Great. Nothing is sacred anymore...you cannot even put your own picture in the paper announcing your marriage and not end up in the hands of a convict!

Anyway ~ that was about 8 years ago and roger has been in and out of jail several times...mostly on drug charges.

fast forward to today.

Dalton is out campaigning for the upcoming election and happens to run into roger lee. He talks with him for a few minutes and tells him that he would appreciate his vote. Roger Lee says,"Mr.Dawson, I don't know if I am gonna be voting for you or for ___________ (a black guy who is running). Dalton went on to tell him how his family had been there for him, how he was more educated and qualified than the other guy (he also should have mentioned how his wife provided him with countless hours of entertainment while imprisoned...ha!). He asked him if he was only voting for the other guy bc he too was black. They bicker/talk back and forth and then finally Dalton convinced him to vote for him. They shook hands and Dalton gets in his truck feeling ever so proud that he had pulled another vote in his favor. He said that about an hour passed and he was thinking how proud of himself he was...and then he remembered...Roger Lee is a convict....he cannot vote...and worse, he had just wasted 20-30 minutes. Better yet, we are not even sure that Roger Lee is aware of the fact that he will not be voting next week! :)

Hope this brightened your day! :) We do love Roger Lee!!!
