You might be a Mother if ~ ~ ~

This was a new one for me today! I consider myself to be a "Seasoned" mom ~ in 5 1/2 years of parenting two children who are 17 months apart, I pretty much know what to expect and what to do in most situations. That would be until today! We are supposed to get some snow later today so I wanted to run the grocery store to pick up the things we needed for the weekend and next week. As I mentioned before, JD has a sinus infectiona dn has been coughing a good bit. When we got in the store, he started and could NOT stop. SO ~ in my motherly wisdom I went to the juice section and got him a capri sun...thinking that if he drank....he would stop coughing. Didn't work. I was in the BACK of the grocery store with a buggy full of groceries. MDD was skipping around and watching herself in the relfection on the glass when I heard the dreaded, "BBBBBBpppppp" which leads up to vomit. OH MY WORD. PLEASE TELL ME THIS IS NOT HAPPENING! I grabbed my purse and was about to dump it and let him throw up in it...gross I know...but thought better and dumped out the bellpeppers and gave him the bag (he was sitting under the cart) JUST in the nick of time!!!! I am trying to be as quiet as I can be and not cause a scence...enter MDD....Who as loudly as she can talk says, "Uhhhh!!! I hate throw up! I want to go home! I don't want his germs! Call Daddy to come get me!" I was literally about to pinch her sweet precious head off. I pulled her VERY closely to me and explained that if she opened her mouth again that it would be bad....very bad.

SO ~ now I am in the back of the store with a buggy full of groceris and a produce bag full of vomit...what to do? what to do? So, like a veteran Mom, I did the natural thing. Dumped out the pears, gave him another bag and quickly finished my shopping! Thankfully he did not get sick again until we got out of the store! And we have groceries! ;) We are supposed to get some snow and I wanted my favorite comfort foods! And for what it is worth...he has not coughed since he got sick....hopefully he is on the mend!

All that to say ~ If you are a TRUE mother, you can deal with vomit and food all in one breathe! I remember once, MDD was a tiny thing and I had made a beautiful salad and sat down to eat it. I had a few bites and she started crying. I picked her up and as I did, she spit up the entire bottle in my salad....and I ate around it. NEVER in a million years did I think I would do anything of the sort! Motherhood will change you...that is for sure! SO ~ for all you good mothers out there...here are two of my recipes on tap for this weekend! Enjoy!!!

CHICKEN CORN CHOWDER ~ REALLY EASY AND REALLY GOOD! :)
4 chicken breasts, cooked and deboned, cut into pieces

2 cans chicken broth

2 cans cream of chicken

2 cans white shoepeg corn

2 cans cream corn

1 medium Velveeta Meixcan cheese

Simmer until thickened. Can add more chicken broth if it is too thick. I heat everything then add cheese so it doesn't stick to bottom of pan. I have also put it all in the crockpot and added the cheese last. EASY and really good! :)

BAKED POTATO SOUP

4 large potatoes, cooked and cooled.

2.3 c four

3/4 tsp salt

4 green onions, chopped

1 1/2 cheddar cheese

2/3 c butter

6 cups milk

1/2 tsp pepper

12 slices of bacon, fried and crumbled

8 oz sour cream

Cut potatoes lengthwise, scoop out and mash. Melt butter and add flour. Stir til smooth. Add milk and cook until thick and bubbly. Add everything else except sour cream. Cook until heated. Stir in sour cream and add extra milk for desire thickness.

**These recipes came from teachers at my sister's school ~ First Presbyterian Day School in Jackson, MS ~ Thanks ladies! :)

Enjoy!

Oh wow - that was some seriously quick mom thinking! Kudos to you! OK...gross question, but I have to ask...what did you do with the bag-o-vomit?? My grocery store doesn't have trash cans sitting around!
