Fish Drama at the Dowdy's ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

OK ~ As I mentioned we bought the kids each a fish on Friday. We got both of their tanks/bowls ready but they had to sit for 24 hours. Flash FWD to Sat. a.m. I made pancakes for the kids and was in my room making the bed. JDD came in and said, "Mama, you get me a towel?" I knew it was bad..

"Why do you need a towel?" I think he saw the worried look on my face and said,"Oh, never mind, Dorfy (DOROTHY, his fish), is a "wittle dirty but it is OK."

Dorfy was still in her plastic bowl from the fish store and on the counter in the kitchen. When I saw Dorfy, I knew we had trouble! JDD had gotten 3 teaspoons of butter out of the butter dish and added it to her water. This may seem like no big deal, but spooning clumps of butter out of a TINY bowl with a now slimy fish coated in butter is no easy task !

Anyway ~ We got Dorfy cleaned up and put in her aquarium.

Everything was great until last night when we got home from church...Dorfy died...probably of a heart attack from clogged arteries. I "code talked" DDD through what had happened, got both kids in the tub while DDD held an official burail at sea.

WE have nto mentioned a word of any of this to the kids. This a.m. MDD asked JDD how Dorothy slept. He said, "She sweep good." Hmmm...he's not kidding! We later went upstairs to make beds and MDD was studying JDD's fish bowl. Of course, she said, "Jack, where is your fish?" He said, "She is a 'wittle shy and she is hiding in the rocks on the bottom." Works for me! :) MDD said, "I don't think that is what she is doing. If she is not out later, she is probably dead." He said/screamed, "SHE IS NOT DEAD...SHE IS SHY!"

Later I walked in his room and he was calling her while staring into the tank. I asked him what he was doing and he said talking to Dorfy!

Dorfy might be the best pet EVER ~ as long as he is happy ~ we will leave the tank as it is ~ I don't have a problem letting Dorfy be "shy!"

MDD doesn't want him anywhere near her fish...I think she knows, but isn't saying anything. Stupdid fish, he only lived about 30 hours after leaving the pet store!


Today is my last day of winter break ~ now I can count down to spring break! :)
