Today I am Thankful For ~

Hymns! I grew up in church and music was a BIG part of our family. I love old hymns ~ you know, the classics ~ The Old Rugged Cross, Blessed Assurance, Great is Thy Faithfulness, It Is Well With My Soul, Victory in Jesus, There is Sunshine in My Soul Today ~ I could go on and on and on....I am thankful that I have these songs committed to memory and am teaching them to my children. Just like certain verses get you through certain times, hymns can do the same! When we thought something was wrong with Jackson when I was pregnant, I remember singing in my head over and over "It is Well With My Soul" ~ when we thought he had a mass on his lung the entire way to Augusta I had a peace about the entire situation and "Great is Thy Faithfulness" was playing in my mind. I am so thankful that I have memories of standing on the pew in church between my Nannie and Popa, who are both in heaven now, singing " I am Resolved" and my Popa singing the bass part. I am also thankful for the memory of my Daddy who NEVER EVER EVER sang in church singing "He Keeps Me Singing" ~ This was one of the VERY few songs he ever sang and I remember as a little girl him singing this song. I am so thankful for the hundred and hundreds of hymns that mean so much to me!

What a wonderful thanksgiving thought. You KNOW how I love music, and I am always comforted by some song when I am in trouble. Can you believe that your daddy now sings, every song, and absolutely loves it. It was so strange for me to hear him sing the first time in church, but now he just sings and doesn't really care who hears him, just so the Lord does.
