This past spring Jackson was nominated to attend several Envision programs. He looked at each one and decided to go to the business innovation in New York city. He was so excited to experience NYC and for this opportunity. He flew out on Sunday, July 17 from Savannah.
I thought he would let us walk him in… But he said absolutely not.
This was super weird for me… He’s walking away and boarding a plane alone… He has flown alone before but was meeting family. I wasn’t even nervous. I was so excited for him and so thankful that our family could afford him this opportunity. I knew that he was going to have an awesome week.
Now he did not send a lot of pictures… He stayed at St. John’s University in Queens. He was in class and in meetings a good part of the week. They had them in pods to keep them safe from Covid exposure. He actually had to have a Covid test before he left.
Even though the majority of time was spent in class, they did have some downtime. He was able to tour Princeton, Columbia University, and university of Pennsylvania. An awesome experience!
He made his friend group pretty quickly and they stuck together all week. He called me most nights around 1030 or 11 but he did not call every night. I begged him for pictures but he literally sent two! I made him give me these off of his phone when he got home!
They also got to go to the financial district and tour. He loved this. I think his dream is to work here one day.
They were supposed to crowd source in Times Square but Jackson and his group ate and goofed off instead!
He was there until Saturday and I picked him up at the airport Saturday afternoon around two. He was absolutely exhausted but told me all about his trip on the way home.
I think he was pleasantly surprised at how much fun this program actually was. He made some great friends and they actually have a group and talk every day. I am so thankful he had this opportunity and was able to make some connections and new friends.
